New Doubtless Bay Farmers Market
Starting on Saturday 12th January and every Saturday after from 9am-1pm at Taipa Area School Hall.

Stall holders are invited to sell:

  • Fresh Fruit and Vegetables
  • Meat, Fish & Shellfish
  • Honey, Eggs, Flowers, Cheese, Dairy Products
  • Home baking & Preserves
  • Vegetable/Fruit Juice, Olive oil etc.

Sellers who have organic or spray free produce are encouraged. Stall holders may need to provide their own table and the cost will be $10 per stall.

Taipa is very busy with Sports events on Saturday Mornings April - September so it is intended to run the market through the winter months too.

Te Ahu, Kaitaia's magnificent new multi-functional civic centre for the northern region of the Far North district, designed by a local architectural practice, is a venue for concerts, plays and other cultural events as well as conferences, council service centre, museum and cinema. It was formally opened by Governor-General Sir Jerry Mateparae on Saturday, 28 April 2012.

Busabout Kaitaia has started a new bus service around Kaitaia and out to the Pak 'n Save Supermarket north of town.

Mangonui Heritage Trail Management Committee has been awarded funding by the Te Hiku Northern Community Board for updating and reprinting the trail guide.

St Andrew's Anglican Church, Mangonui celebrates its 150th anniversary.

Our member, Hihi Olive Estate, has won the gold medal in the boutique class in the recent New Zealand Olive Oil Awards. First Drop, a group including Hihi Olive Estate won three silvers in the commercial class at the awards.

September 2010
Our member, Karikari Estate Vineyard & Winery, has won the gold medal for its 2008 Calypso chardonnay in the New Zealand International Wine Show. It also earned a silver medal for its 2009 Karikari Estate pinotage. This followed a silver in the Bragato Wine Awards for the 2009 Karikari Estate chardonnay.

Historian Neva Clarke McKenna's contribution to the Doubtless Bay community was recognised in the naming of Mangonui's waterfront boardwalk in honour of her. FNDC Media release.

Ben Lutze

 

Ben Lutze of Taipa Sailing Club won the World Splash Championship held at Tavira, Portugal. The New Zealand team also won the Nations Cup for the most number of competitors finishing in the top ten positions.

Keziah Deverell, also of Taipa Sailing Club, was placed second girl in the competition.

Northland's newest underwater attraction

HMNZS Canterbury The retired Leander-class frigate HMNZS Canterbury, originally commissioned in 1971, was sunk in Deepwater Cove at Cape Brett in the Bay of Islands on 3rd November. Be among the first to dive the HMNZS Canterbury.
