Main features

Doubtless Bay Promotion Inc., with the help of Mangonui Lions, hosted the Mangonui to Coopers Beach Fun Run/Walk on Sunday 14th September 2008.

The picturesque setting catered for a 5 km run taking runners from Mangonui School, past the Historic Mangonui Village, along magnificent pohutukawa-tree lined Coopers Beach with a further 3 km run over Taumaruru Reserve and Otanenui Pa site for the very keen runners.

Prize giving was held on the Village Green at Coopers Beach (in front of Coopers Café) at 12.00 noon.

Spot prizes were awarded with certificates issued to all those who complete the event.

About the event

The inaugural Doubtless Bay Promotion Inc. Fun Run/Walk from Mangonui to Coopers Beach was a great success. Sponsored by Oxford Sports Trust, the Fun Run had just under 200 entries from families, business teams and individuals from as far away as Whangarei, Kaikohe, Kerikeri, Kaeo and Kaitaia.

After all the rain during the past 13 Sundays, our day was warm and sunny as the participants arrived for the start at Mangonui Primary School. With the help from councillor Laurie Byers in the lead vehicle to Russell Ujdur from Sport Northland, the Mangonui Volunteer Fire Brigade and Mangonui Lions - all made the event such a success.

The highlight of the day, after prize giving from some wonderful sponsors, was the speech by Shane Jones (one of our local Members of Parliament) followed by the jazz band “Lounge Sweet”, playing on the deck of Coopers Café where participants enjoyed coffee in the afternoon sun.
